PLEASE  READ  BEFORE  BIDDING. 

Coins  and  medals  are  sold  at  so  much  per  piece,  no*matter 
how  many  m a lot,  and  no  lot  will  be  separated,  except  proof 
sets  whmh  are  sold  per  set,  or  as  one  piece.  If  a lot  contains 
say  10  pieces  and  you  wish  to  pay  $2  for  it,  bid  20  cents  on  the 
lot.  Ihe  auctioneer  will  accept  an  advance  of  1 cent  up  to  50c. 
then  5c.  up  to  $2.50,  when  10c.  advance  must  be  bid  up  to  $lo' 
when  no  advance  under  25  cents  will  be  accepted.  You  can  bid 
anything  up  to  50c.,  after  that  the  bid  must  be  55c.,  or  60c 
Such  offers  as  51c.,  $1.01,  etc.,  are  unavailable.  Remember  do 
not  bid  a lump  sum  for  a lot,  but  by  piece. 

Auction  sales  are  strictly  for  cash.  Parties  unknown  to  me 
and  bidding  for  the  first  time,  must  either  forward  a deposit  cov- 
ering at  lea.st  25%  of  their  bids,  or  give  bank  or  other  reliable 
reference. 

Forward  your  bids  as  early  as  possible,  as  thousands  of  bids 
have  to  be  entered.  Do  not  make  ridiculously  low  bids  such  as 
10  and  15c.  on  foreign  silver  coins  worth  several  times  over  as 
bullion.  Write  your  bids  plainly,  with  a pen  if  practicable  I 
have  taken  special  pains  to  carefully  and  fairly  describe  each  lot. 

Where  the  number  of  pieces  in  a lot  is  not  given  after  the 
description,  there  is  but  one  piece  in  the  lot. 

All  coins,  etc.,  are  genuine  unless  otherwise  described 

My  charge  for  executing  bids  will  be  5%.  Remit  by  money 
order  or  New  York  draft,  as  the  usual  exchange  fee  will  be  de- 
ducted from  checks. 

A printed  list  giving  prices  realized  for  each  lot  at  the  sale 
will  be  mailed  on  receipt  of  50  cents.

Enclosed  in  little  metal  frames  and  passed  for  money  during 
our  Civil  War. 

A Splendid  Collection  belonging  to  three  gentlemen  who  are 
among  the  most  prominent  collectors  of  these  stamps  in  our 
country. 

All  told  there  were  only  about  150  varieties  of  these  stamps 
issued.  Many  here  offered  have  been  in  the  hands  of  their  present 
owners  for  fifteen  years  or  more.  These  are  all  more  or  less  rare, 
and  several  here  listed  are  not  offered  over  our  counters  once  in 
a dozen  years.  In  numerous  purchases  during  the  past  three  years 
only  two  encased  stamps  have  been  offered  me.  This  will  give 
an  idea  of  their  rarity.  These  are  duplicates,  the  fruit  of  long 
years  of  patient  inquiry,  advertising  and  effort.  All  are  entirely^
